The Weekend Story

Last Friday, I listened to a speaker, Alex Grey discuss with us about his passion, his life, his art work. It fascinates me how individuals tap into what they are passionate about and how they choose to express it to the world. Alex just returned from a trip to the North Pole and had no idea what he would be doing next. He had given up, so went to reconnect with his art professor. His art professor and him had decided to go to this party that a woman had invited them too. That woman ended up becoming his wife and they shared his first psychedelic experience.

One night, one conversation, one moment can change your life.

His psychedelic experiences allowed him to express emotion through color and imagery that is truly breathtaking. If you have not seen any of his art work then I recommend you going to the website (www.cosm.org) or even better see it live at his gallery in Chelsea. It will be closing down soon, so be sure to see it or you will have to wait to see it the art in upstate New York.

The paintings are inspired by Tibetan culture. Also, something I found interesting was that the fire and eyes in all of his paintings are his own symbols of how he visually sees consciousness. He illuminates consciousness and brings such energy to all who see his work. It brings a smile to my face and as intense as some of the paintings are I must say I do find my silence in it – great environment to meditate or just unwind/relax. The end of his lecture he showed us an amazing video clip, the net of being, and was blown away with the music and visuals that were being displayed in front of me. Art in action.

The following days were nicely packed with meeting up with friends and making delicious live meals and sweets for their taste buds to dance. Sunday, I got to check out a friend’s new exhibition piece that just opened up at the MoMA, Design in the Elastic Mind. It was my second dose in the course of three days to color and design, intelligent art work, all working in energizing my mind.

A quick few lines about the exhibition:

"The exhibition will highlight examples of successful translation of disruptive innovation, examples based on ongoing research, as well as reflections on the future responsibilities of design. Of particular interest will be the exploration of the relationship between design and science and the approach to scale. The exhibition will include objects, projects, and concepts offered by teams of designers, scientists, and engineers from all over the world, ranging from the nanoscale to the cosmological scale. "

Definitely check it out. It will be available on the 6th floor till May 12th

How amazing is that? It may be even hard to really digest and understand, but you know the past 25 years of technology has transformed us and our ways of living.

We are so connected to technology it seems as though we are going to be developing some sort of health challenges in the future that will be based solely on the fact we are so hooked on technology. We are wired.

It’s not even just about being wired, but it’s also about moving, adapting or should I say being elastic now that technology is moving so quickly. What’s going on with outer space? We are sending rockets out there constantly? Who knows? Ops! That was a side note, but back to the quickness of how life is now compared to other generations – it’s scary, we are able to be on the phone, text message and reply to an email all at once. Imagine what it will be like for the younger generations? My nephew is 4 years old and he knows about Hanna Montana and wants an ipod like many other children. Is it okay for them to be putting in head phones in their cute little ears, playing wii or even computer games at that age? Who knows? We are all the guinea pigs on whether or not technology will affect our health. What happens to playing outside, getting fresh air, creating an imagination with your friends, and learning to share, etc? I suppose it happens but it happens through technology – games. This also brings me to a point about kids now no longer need friends, since they have technology, why bother? This is dangerous because they will then lack physical contact and fundamental emotions (compassion, love, understanding, etc) that are apart of the developing process.

On another note, I am starting to think that there could be a possibility of us all going back to how the previous generations lived back in the day. This is where we will be growing our own food and will start to use technology to help us be more eco-friendly, etc. The reason why I feel this way is because as a society we go in cycles and tailor the repeating cycle with current technology. Just taking a moment to think back to the previous generations - Isn’t it interesting that we no longer use our minds to do the simple things such as being able to sew a button on a jacket, quick calculations of math, memorize all your friend’s phone numbers (or anything – we do have iphones and blackberries), grow a garden or plant a seed. I am aware that there are people who know how to do these things, but it’s the general idea that many basics have been not a priority because technology has provided it for us to help us do manage other things and be lazy and mindless in these specific basic areas.

Overlooking certain areas and quickly moving faster and faster with technology is concerning. Are we moving too fast? I see this especially in New York City, the city of constant buzz. So, how is it to not burn out with this need to keep up with the ever changing technology? I feel it is important to have time for you. Yes, yourself. I said it. You need time to hibernate and restore your energy, so you can increase your natural energy. By hibernate- I refer to you spending that extra time to take it a bit slow, take an hour nap, chew your food slowly, meditate a bit longer, take a long bath, but find a way to truly relax, so that you can find that natural energy instead of the overdose on espresso shots, pills, sugar rush, etc to get your quick fix on energizing yourself.

Speaking of energizing yourself, I realize that this past weekends were energized by a combination of fresh green juice and colors in the art work that I either stumbled upon or actively experienced. It’s clear to me that it is a sign of my creative heart wanting to be released.

Energize yourself.

Check out a comedy club or just be simple about it and laugh with a dear friend.

Peace.

I am Life.

We all have a tendency in making statements that say "My life" or "This is Life" or "Your Life"

Why do we say this?

Today is a day to be life and not make it separate from you.

You are LIFE.

What does that mean?

It embodies fearlessness and being present.
What unfolds is the beauty of the moment and the joy of you.

You being Life.

Yes, I am a cheesy one and love every minute of it.

Love life. Love yourself.

Why not? Let's meet.

Where: Bonobos
When: 2-16-08
Why: We are foodies!

The success of this event was all because of the wonderful healthy people that attended - Thank you.

There was a group of 30 or so health counselors and friends all experiencing the delicious raw food together. The best part of the dinner was hearing everyones own experiences with raw food and how they were introduced to the lifestyle.

I believe the best way to learn is from each other.
Share the knowledge.
Knowledge is power.

Meet ups ROCK!

There will definitely be more events to come... so keep a look out!

Have a powerful energized day!

Oh snap...

Love at First Sight.

Yes, it's with these beauties, Cocolove.

Made with lots of love and just in time to share the sweetness on the 14th

The day many people have all sorts of expectations on what they should be receiving from their special someone. It's funny that it becomes a whole production, when appreciation and love should happen frequently throughout the year and not only on one particular day. Don't you agree? There's too much work involved in the whole production.
It should be simple with no stress making it oh so FUN.

So, I ended up celebrating it at a friends apartment with several people dancing to good music and surrounded by beautiful artwork. I couldn't have asked for a better night. Why? Well, I literally had that love at first sight feeling as I walked into the apartment and was enamored with all the beautiful vibrant colors painted on atleast 20 or so canvases across the apartment. That occupied most of my time as I stood in awe looking at the beautiful pieces and so inspired to create something as magical.

These photos do not do justice to the beauty they have in real life.

Inspired to paint and play with color!

Who doesn't love visual art?

I love paintings, but even better is when I can get an emotional experience from 3D art.

If anyone has the opportunity and time to see this show I highly recommend it because you will walk out of it so energized and amazed that it'll be worth it. The music is also absolutely wonderful that it will be stuck with you after you leave the show.

La la la la it's time to sing myself to sleep and dream of colors.

Where's the sun?

It's very cold outside and all I want to do is... play.

"Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold."
-J. Chilton Pearce

(Soaking in Vitamin D at Central Park)

Play.

Work as if you have no money.
Love as if you have never been hurt.
Dance like no one is watching.
Sing like no one is listening.
And live everyday as if it were your last.

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play
than in a year of conversation"

- Plato

Meet up with someone today or this week and simply play!
(make dinner, snow angels, snowball fight, guitar hero (haha yes, I've played it for the first time and enjoyed it), make up a game or just laugh)

What's there not to like?

The time spent traveling recaptured the essence of my existence.
Explore. Discover. Inspire.

I saw the premiere to Jumper yesterday and I have to say it was entertaining. Imagine - Anywhere is possible. You can go anywhere in the world by putting your mind to it. Why not? We may not be able to teleport now, but we can manifest what tomorrow brings with our present thoughts.

Do you recall that wonderful Dr. Seuss book?

Oh, the Places you'll go!

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places.
You're off and away!

This is one of my all time favorite books. Simple, fun and honest. Each day is a great day with new adventures for you to uncover. Whether you are traveling across the globe, to work, to a friends or a relatives you are still traveling.

Side note- While I was wandering the streets of Geneva, I literally stumbled upon this smiley face etched into the ground. It immediately brought a smile to my face and made me think of how lucky I was to discover it. You just never know what you may stumble upon...

Oh Yes! I love to travel. There is something about exploring foreign cultures that has this ability in making my five senses completely heightened giving me that ultimate experience. The experience of indulging into an array of unfamiliar scents, tastes, noises or stillness that keeps your eyes pleasantly engaged as you soak it all in. During your travels there can also be moments of feeling completely independent, free, connected to the universe, to being alone, fear of the unknown, lack of control, as you are learning to digest the new environment. It's this roller coaster of ups and downs that you learn to be more aware and aligned with to keep balance and have internal growth.

Dr. Seuss says it best:

You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you suceed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

Kid, You'll Move Mountains!

I leave you with Dr. Seuss's words and a reminder that yes, you will move mountains!

So, have a fantabulastic week!

Beauty in the eye of the beholder.

My mind is full of beautiful connected moments from my time away that I am still digesting to share with you. It's been a few weeks and I have been lucky to get some fresh crisp air with time to sit and settle my thoughts. I have been fortunate enough to go snowboarding for the first time yesterday in Vermont. I must say that even though I am very sore, I love sitting in this cozy lake-side cottage immersed in nature with the white snow flakes covering the area in a blanket of glistening pearly white goodness. It is enough inspiration to get me to think, write and share just some of the stories from my trip.

This picture is of a little girl sitting in the alley with her family.

It was taken in Baroda at a huge outdoor vegetable/fruit/flower market.

The colors and light really took to me. After sorting through the 2,000 or so pictures I took I noticed a pattern in what my lens captured - Colors, Children and Nature. All elements that embody lots of energy and joy.

To me they all Glow.

My moment here was the awe and beauty of the family, the little girl, slowly eating her lunch with her father and brother in the alley. Family. Number 1 priority in India is the closeness in distance each family member is to one another. Family and religion is their food.

I will continue later, as I head out of Vermont and back to New York.

Enjoy the picture and remember to keep your family close if not in distance then by communication.
